Breast Cancer Research
I recently attended a Sisters By Choice Conference and presented on Cardiac Sparing radiation techniques.
The event, the 28th Annual Cancer Awareness Weekend, was held Oct. 3-6. The Educational Seminar annually hosts a number of world-renowned local and national breast cancer specialists. The event is open to survivors, women, and men at risk, healthcare providers and the general public.
Cardiac Sparing radiation techniques include maneuvers that displace the heart from the field such prone breast planning for whole right breast irradiation, which is an option to detect underlying lung disease or COPD.
Sisters By Choice (SBC) was founded in 1989 by Dr. Rogsbert F. Phillips-Reed, an Atlanta-based breast surgeon. SBC provides breast exams, mammograms, and other breast services including to unemployed and homeless women each year as well as providing free educational seminars, workshops, and health fairs to promote breast cancer awareness. They offer monthly support groups in Atlanta, Stockbridge, Marietta, Lithonia, and South Fulton.
I support their mission of increasing knowledge among health professionals, patients and their families, and the general public about breast health, breast cancer treatment options, and research. Their website offers a wealth of information about breast cancer that is helpful to those diagnosed with the disease and want to learn more about it.
You can also visit the section of this website dedicated to breast cancer treatment or ask a question.
