Chattanooga Cancer Treatment
Once CT Simulation is completed, your Radiation Oncologist will get to work on your radiation plan.
Once CT Simulation is completed, your Radiation Oncologist will get to work on your radiation plan. She will use advanced software to target your tumor as well as identify critical organs surrounding the tumor that she wants to avoid. Many of your prior scans will be reviewed and “fused” to your CT simulation scan, including prior PET scans and MRIs.
Your radiation oncologist then works with other team members called Dosimetrists, to create an arrangement of radiation beams that gives a prescribed dose of radiation to the tumor and safely avoids the surrounding organs at risk. This planning process typically takes around a week to allow for your doctor to review multiple plans and decided which one is best for you. She also works with Medical Physicists who perform quality assurance tests on your radiation plan to ensure the radiation dose she prescribed is correctly delivered.
